Mingalabar! Festival was the most prominent event I worked on during my time at the French Institute in Myanmar.
On the occasion of the 55 years of cultural relations between France and Myanmar, the Institut Français de Birmanie (IFB) organised in partnership with the Government of Yangon Region, Mingalabar!, a multidisciplinary city-scale festival in the heart of Yangon.

Over 150 000 people attended the 3-day festival, with millions following the event's live broadcast on national TV.

The event marked a fundamental shift in the government's policy towards cultural events as more events were granted authorisation to be held in public spaces and parks. It represented a unique step towards freedom and democratisation of the arts in Myanmar.

MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT

In line with the tradition of the major street art festivals held in France, IFB presented a 3-days city-scale festival intended for Yangon’s inhabitants – a set of artistic and poetic performances in the heart of the city.

Following the parade of two giant puppets, more than a hundred French and Myanmar artists presented performances and live shows (concerts, street art, videomapping, fireworks, dance,...) in key locations of the city.

First multidisciplinary festival of international scale, Mingalabar! Festival brought to Yangonites a breathtaking show investing and giving back the streets to its inhabitants.
